1st Reth Folk Fest
Rethymno Mikrasiaton square
The 1st Reth Folk Fest will be held on August 10th- 11th – 12th in 2018 in the city of Rethymno on the island of Crete in Greece. The event will take place at the historical Mikrasiaton square in the center of the old town of Rethymno. This event will last 3 days with the participation of folk figures from all over Europe. The aim of the event is to establish an annual summer festival of a worldwide organizing class with what it implies for the participating casts, but also for the audience that will be present from around the world.
The Mikrasiaton Square is located in the old town of Rethymno and is the largest square in the heart of the historic city center.
It is an ideal spot for the Festival, because it symbolically represents the crossroads that coexist with the architecture of different cultures, where in the summer months people from all the lengths and widths of the earth meet. Due to morphology and accessibility, it approaches similar squares of European countries where similar concerts are taking place.
The square is a meeting point for the youth of Rethymno, the visitors of the city mainly in the summer, as well as the families.
The monuments surrounding the Mikrasiaton Square are jewels for the city of Rethymno, since they are the most important buildings that have remained since the Venetian and Ottoman times, such as the House of Culture, the Neratze Mosque, the Church of St. Francis, the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno and the Historical and Folklore Museum.
